Self-Portrait

I think self-portrait is a fun topic. It gives me the chance of portraying myself as something that I see myself as, or just anything that I want to be seen as. For this illustration, I am portraying me as what I am, a brain in a meat-suit. Therefore, I decided to illustrate my face, my skull, and the eye-brain connection. I wanted to achieve a semi-realistic, a bit surreal, with the use of mixed media and have a bright neon colour palette; hence I made this using traditional and digital method. I started with drafting out a few sketches then scanned them, edit with Adobe Photoshop, and play around with the composition until I’m satisfied. After that I print the final sketch on a sketchbook paper. Next, I coloured some of the parts starting with the brain system using watercolour and highlighted some parts using red ballpoint pen. Then I coloured my face using pencil colours. I then scanned again the drawing to continue colouring my skull, irises, then added some sparkles and lines, and redraw the outline in Adobe Photoshop. And finally, I draw some faded groovy swirls in Adobe Illustrator for the background.
